In 2015, the City of Portsmouth, Ohio held a design contest to redesign the city's seal. During the design process, I tried to keep in mind of one of Portsmouth's most popular views of it which was from across the Ohio River from the Kentucky side. Since Portsmouth had a strong history of transportation, I tried to include elements through the design that symbolize water transportation (boat), air (birds), and roadway. I also highlighted the Scioto Valley hills in the background and the floodwall in the middle ground along with beautiful trees in the foreground. I use a rope border to further symbolize how important river life is to the city.
